New Magic Descriptors (Pathfinder)

New Magic Descriptors

The following spell descriptors have significant considerations when added to the game world.

Onerous: Spells that are particularly taxing have the onerous descriptor. Spellcasters who prepare spells can only prepare a particular onerous spell once when readying spells for the day. Spontaneous spellcasters can only cast a particular onerous spell once per day, regardless of the number of spell slots of that spell level they have available.

Sorcery: Spells with the sorcery descriptor rely upon inherent magical aptitude and can only be cast as spontaneous arcane spells. Therefore, they cannot be prepared and can never be cast as a divine spell. Also, these spells cannot be stored in a magic item such as a potionscroll, or wand, and so on.

Theurgy: Spells with the theurgy descriptor rely on the intervention of supernatural forces; most often a theurgist’s patron or agents of said patron. In this way, they are similar to divine spells and indeed, a deity could be a theurgist’s patron and be the ultimate source of that spell. Creatures with spell-like abilities will not typically have abilities based on spells with the theurgy descriptor unless they have a reliance on outside supernatural entities like a theurgist.
